KWANDA is the deeply soulful debut album from acclaimed South African producer and DJ MustBeDubz, marking a transformative milestone in his artistic journey. Known for his multi-platinum production credits and his ability to craft infectious dancefloor anthems, MustBeDubz has spent years working behind the scenes with some of South Africa's greatest artists, collaborating with the likes of Scotts Maphuma, Kwesta, and Focalistic . With this project, he steps fully into the spotlight as a solo artist, delivering a body of work that is as introspective as it is rhythmically irresistible .
The album's title, KWANDA, is derived from the isiZulu word for "growth" . Released on August 7, 2026, the 8-track project is an intimate reflection of MustBeDubz's personal evolution, documenting his journey through the trials and tribulations of the music industry and celebrating the resilience that has brought him to this moment . As he explains, the album is a "journey of radical self-evolution"—each track reflecting life's uncertainties, personal breakthroughs, and the quiet resilience required to become who we're destined to be .
The project opens with the lead single "Ndlela," featuring Rory Diamondz and DJ Veek. The title translates to "journey" and sets the tone for the entire album, speaking directly to MustBeDubz's personal experiences with industry challenges and the faith that carried him through . The album's sonic palette blends soulful Amapiano with lush instrumentation, jazz-inspired harmonies, and subtle spiritual influences rooted in Zulu culture, creating an immersive experience that feels equally at home in moments of quiet reflection or on the dancefloor .
KWANDA features a carefully curated roster of collaborators who add depth and variety to the project. Rory Diamondz appears alongside DJ Veek on the lead single, while Afriikan Papi joins on "Hambile" and Luigi Anywhere on "Ngelosi" . Leandra.Vert lends her vocals to "African Boy" —an Amapiano tune that blends romance, wanderlust, and cultural pride into a vibrant sonic experience . Amani ZA, SMG, and Dumi Gift feature on "Stoko Sam," while the closing track "Family" brings together Nokwazi, Zoë Modiga, and Alie Keys . Dumi Gift also appears on the opening track "Angels Anthem," setting a spiritually uplifting tone from the very beginning .
The production across KWANDA highlights MustBeDubz's technical mastery and artistic vision—a masterclass in contemporary Amapiano that pushes the genre's boundaries without losing its soulful roots . As MustBeDubz himself puts it: "This isn't just an Amapiano album; it is a sonic baptism" . The project encourages listeners to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with themselves, proving that Amapiano has the capacity to tell deeply personal stories without losing its musical identity .
With KWANDA, MustBeDubz delivers a powerful statement that cements his place as not just a hitmaker, but a storyteller with a clear artistic vision. It is a celebration of growth, resilience, and the enduring power of music to heal, inspire, and transform.
