Bhazi Haritsiki Arimugomo is the eighth studio album from rising Zimbabwean Sungura star Mark Ngwazi, marking a significant moment in his career as he navigates the competitive landscape of Zimbabwe's most beloved genre. Known for his catchy, relatable punchlines and energetic performances with his band Njanja Express, Ngwazi has steadily built a reputation as one of the most exciting young voices in Sungura . With this project, he delivers a body of work that he believes represents his best effort yet, carrying a title that holds a deeper artistic message.
The album's title, Bhazi Haritsiki Arimugomo, translates roughly to "The Bus Cannot Stop on a Mountain"—a metaphor that Ngwazi has hinted carries the weight of everything fans should expect from the project. Speaking on the motivation behind the name, he explained: "That is actually the art that you should expect come August 1. Everything on the album is hidden in the title of the project" . The title suggests themes of perseverance, destiny, and the impossibility of stopping a journey once it has begun—a fitting concept for an artist who has faced industry challenges and scheduling conflicts.
The album's journey to release was marked by significant industry drama. Originally slated for an August 1, 2026 launch, Ngwazi aggressively rolled out his promotional campaign with posters and media buzz building anticipation . However, the announcement of the Cheso Power Festival, hosted by Sungura heavyweight Alick Macheso on July 31 at Alex Sports Club—the same venue Ngwazi had earmarked for his launch—created a scheduling clash that sparked widespread debate .
Ngwazi initially expressed his unease publicly on Facebook, questioning the overlap before ultimately making the difficult decision to postpone the album launch indefinitely. In an official statement, he explained: "As an artist who deeply respects the Sungura genre and everyone who contributes to its growth, I believe it is important to prioritize unity, peace, and mutual respect among both musicians and fans. Releasing the album at this time may unintentionally create unnecessary tension, and that is something I wish to avoid" . The move was widely interpreted as a strategic and diplomatic step, reinforcing his image as an artist mindful of the broader industry ecosystem .
While the full album details remain closely guarded, the tracks that have surfaced from the project reveal Ngwazi's signature blend of traditional Sungura guitar work, driving rhythms, and the catchy, quotable punchlines that have made his songs viral across both rural heartlands and urban centers . Tracks like "Mwana Wamai," "Munhu we Chikwereti," and "Gudo Guru" showcase his ability to craft songs that resonate with everyday experiences, with the album launch itself featuring a live performance with Tamy Moyo .
Ngwazi's journey to Bhazi Haritsiki Arimugomo has been one of steady ascent. He rose to prominence with the hit "Taurai Madzoka" from his 2020 album Chamugwegwedu Chamatindike, and his 2023 album Nharo Nezvine Nharo earned him awards at the ZIMA Awards and sparked comparisons to Macheso himself . His decision to take a musical hiatus in 2025 to focus on his farming ventures—piggery and poultry projects—only heightened anticipation for his return, with Ngwazi explaining: "I couldn't give the fans a half-done and unsatisfactory album. I really care about them. They are the ones who made my name grow as big as it has become and they deserve the best from me" .
With Bhazi Haritsiki Arimugomo, Mark Ngwazi delivers a powerful statement that cements his place as one of Sungura's most compelling young voices. It is a celebration of resilience, artistic integrity, and the enduring power of Zimbabwean Sungura music.
