Little Us is the deeply personal debut EP from Nigerian singer-songwriter Ekene, marking an intimate and transformative chapter in his artistic journey. Known for his soulful songwriting, emotive vocal delivery, and refusal to chase commercial trends, Ekene has carved out a distinctive lane in Nigeria's alternative R&B scene. With this project, he turns his innermost thoughts into a conversation with his younger self, exploring identity, faith, family, and the quiet moments that shape who we become.
Released on July 3, 2026 through Mother Africa Reigns Supreme (MARS), the 7-track EP serves as both a healing apology and a status update to the boy he used to be. Tracks like "Lullaby," "Farewell," and "Epiphany" are diaristic dispatches that collapse the boundaries between religion, grief, and self-discovery, while "Relations" features a guest appearance from Braye, adding warmth and musical depth. The project balances moments of heaviness with warmth and understanding, inviting listeners to revisit their own memories and question inherited patterns.
Little Us has already garnered significant attention, earning Ekene the prestigious Apple Music Africa Rising cover star title for July 2026—a testament to his emergence as one of the most compelling new voices in African music. Described as "a thoughtful and deeply moving R&B project" that looks back at childhood "not through rose-tinted glasses, but with genuine curiosity", the EP proves that vulnerability, thoughtful storytelling, and authentic songwriting can be just as powerful as chart-chasing hits.
With Little Us, Ekene delivers an emotionally rich statement that positions him among a new generation of African artists reshaping contemporary music. It is a beautiful reminder that sometimes, the best way to move forward is by listening to the little version of yourself you thought you had left behind.
