Moon 1 is the bold and unpredictable debut album from Nigerian artist EF Moon, marking a fearless introduction to his creative world. Born Elijah Friday, the Kogi-born act has quickly become one of the most talked-about new voices in the Afrobeats and Afro-fusion landscape, known for his eccentric visual persona, genre-blurring sound, and refusal to be boxed in by industry norms .
Released on June 4, 2026, the 9-track album is the culmination of EF Moon's unconventional journey to the spotlight. He first caught widespread attention with his viral hit "I Knoww," a song powered by his striking visuals, eccentric personality, and his now-signature pet monkey named "Moon," which he cleverly uses as a promotional tool . The title Moon 1 pays tribute to the name given to him by his grandfather—a name he wears proudly as a prominent crescent moon tattoo on his forehead .
EF Moon's approach to music is as unconventional as his image. He doesn't "write" in the traditional sense—he simply says what he feels, capturing raw, spontaneous expression without afterthought . His delivery and songwriting feel intrusive and urgent, like unfiltered, no-holds-barred expression captured in the moment .
The album opens with "Life Is Slo," a track that has gained serious traction through heavy promotion. On it, EF Moon speaks with blunt, aggressive honesty about ambition, rejecting corporate salary life, and radical self-belief. Standout lines include: "I for don buy Tesla / I for don dey chill with Burna Boy, Rema, Ronaldo or Neymar" and "I no expect anybody to rescue / If anybody rescue me / Thank God" . "I Knoww" doubles down on this self-confidence, while "Express" gets spooky—blending 2000s Nollywood soundtrack vibes with screamo-like rock energy while staying melodic .
Beneath the eccentricity lies genuine vulnerability. "Fearful" delivers deeper commentary on the contradictions of fame—how confidence and fear coexist, and how thin the line is between fearlessness and recklessness . On "Rrhoids" (a playful reference to hemorrhoids), EF Moon confronts a personal health struggle with raw honesty: "Am I really scared no / rain for dey my eye / I for do dey weep / I gats quit Igbo for now / alcohol for now / my health don dey fall down" .
The album ends on a more introspective note with "Relax," "No Trust Me," "Animal," and "Y." "Relax" reflects on resilience amid daily challenges, while "Animal" openly declares a lack of trust in humans—with Moon jokingly implying he'd rather rely on animals. "Y" provides a short, enigmatic close to the project, featuring an interesting guitar-driven rock solo twist .
The album features only one collaborator, Star Jay, who EF Moon describes as a brother and creative partner. The vagueness of their relationship—supported for free in exchange for visibility—suggests Star Jay also serves as his producer alter ego . Star Jay also produced "Rrhoids" , while "I Knoww" was produced by Csmile . The album is released under Inner Circle Entertainment under exclusive licence from Moonites Limited .
EF Moon's rise has been supported by performances at Glitch Africa and Aktivated sessions, visual collaborations with Blaqbonez and Khaid, a subtle co-sign from Mr Eazi on X, and interviews on Beat FM and Cool FM . His bold tattoos, ever-changing hairstyles (currently inspired by Blade), and pet monkey "Moon" have made him one of the most visually distinctive artists in the Nigerian music scene .
With Moon 1, EF Moon delivers a powerful statement that cements his place as one of the most exciting and unpredictable new voices in African music. It is a celebration of raw expression, artistic freedom, and the courage to be completely, unapologetically different.
