Written and performed by Lawrence Harvey Mashiloane and executive produced by Vaughn Thiel, the project features production from Fiji Mageba, Sundaeb Beats, Tyson Sybatelli, Tyler, and Jordan Klem, who help shape a soundscape that connects Harvey's roots in Alexandra Township with a broader contemporary R&B and soul aesthetic .

Speaking on the meaning behind the project, Harvey explained: "There is a Presley narrative that I want people to perceive, like he's following his footsteps. But there's a deeper one. Elvis is my father's name" . He has been open about not having a close relationship with his father, describing Son of Elvis as "a door you're still open" —an opportunity to finally acknowledge and explore his father's side of the family . Growing up surrounded largely by women on his mother's side shaped much of his earlier catalogue, and this project represents an opening toward a history he has yet to experience fully .
