Album: Detour by JayJayy

Detour is the debut album from South African Amapiano vocalist JayJayy, marking the arrival of one of the genre's most compelling new voices. Hailing from Soweto, the 20-year-old singer—born Kamogelo Makoma Jaydrean Mokoti—has already delivered one of Amapiano's biggest anthems with "Phesheya" . With this project, she delivers a 12-track body of work that explores the complicated spaces where love, longing, and self-discovery collide, framed in danceable Amapiano production .

Released on February 13, 2026, the album arrived after a run of 2025 singles and serves as a formal introduction to her sound . JayJayy describes the project's title as a deliberate choice: "Detour is that pause. It's the choice to wander from the straight road we've been told to follow into a place where love exists in its most lived form, tested by hardship, bruised by downfalls, and strengthened through endurance" . Produced primarily by her close collaborator Mordecai, with additional production from Shakes & Les and 031Choppa, the album frames devotion, desire, and vulnerability with a softness that never feels timid .

The album finds JayJayy exploring different dimensions of love across its runtime . "Umusa We Nkosi," featuring Zee_nhle and produced by ShaunMusiq, addresses love for her Creator, while "Mngani Wami (Jaydecai)," produced by Mordecai, celebrates the bond between friends . On "Ncono Sishade" with DJ Tshegu and Quinton Deep, she throws indecision out the window, while "Asixolelane" finds her singing "sengisaba ukusho, ukuthi wena awungiphathe kahle" ("I'm even afraid to say that you don't treat me well") over production that leaves space for her breathy voice before log drums knock the wind out of the song . "Ngiyagowa," produced by Mordecai and Sandy6eats, captures the feeling of going through the most .

The album's creative partnership with Mordecai has been central to its success. The pair met at Rap Academy, the Johannesburg-based Amapiano hub that operates as a label, recording studio, and artist development platform . "We made one song together in the beginning. And we realised that we actually click, we understand each other in terms of work. After that we just kept on making music together, and people loved it," she says . Mordecai produced her two biggest streaming songs to date, "Phesheya" and "Mngani Wami," with the former—released in October 2025—being entirely freestyled . She wrote "Mngani Wami" as a dedication to her best friend Jackie: "I was missing my best friend Jackie at the time... She helped me through the darkest moments in my career. And I was like, I need to make a song that's dedicated to her, that actually appreciates her" .

The album features an impressive roster of collaborators from across the Amapiano landscape, including Zee_nhle, Mordecai, DJ Tshegu, Quinton Deep, Shakes & Les, 031Choppa, Sandy6eats, Djy Biza, Steamzy_da_kid, Djy Ma'Ten, W4DE, Ice Beats Slide, and Sbuda Maleather . The album has generated significant streaming success, with over 16.6 million total streams and approximately 95,900 daily streams, with "Phesheya" leading at over 11 million streams alone .
