Born Oseremen Marvin Ukanigbe in Edo State, Mavo grew up in Ekpoma where he attended an all-boys secondary school that fostered his independence. Despite his musical ambitions, he pursued optometry at Afe Babalola University—a decision inspired by his mother's eye health issues—and is set to graduate in July 2026. His path to music wasn't straightforward: after posting early tracks on SoundCloud, he deleted everything and started over, personally messaging potential listeners. Many ignored him, but the few who engaged became his first real audience.

What sets Mavo apart is his self-described "Burbur music"—an experimental blend of Afrobeats and rap characterized by unfiltered storytelling and playful slang. His signature "-izzy" suffix, popularized through hits like "Escaladizzy," has become his trademark. The word "Burbur" itself means "something that's crazy, something that's busting out speakers".

So committed is Mavo to his linguistic world-building that he spent two years developing the "Bizzylingua"—a vocabulary of 80 original terms—and published it as Bizzypedia, A Native Bur Bur Dictionary in collaboration with NATIVE Mag. This self-aware Gen Z move turned his quirks into a brand identity that fans actively engage with and decode.

Mavo's breakthrough came with "Escaladizzy," which debuted on the UK Afrobeats Chart and racked up a million streams in under two weeks. The track earned public co-signs from BNXN, Joeboy, and Zerry DL. But his 2025 releases catapulted him to another level entirely.

Within 19 hours of release, "Kilometer II" crossed 100,000 Spotify streams and trended across social platforms. A star-studded remix featuring Ayra Starr, Shallipopi, and Zlatan followed. But the biggest moment arrived when Davido personally messaged him on Instagram requesting to remix "Shakabulizzy"—returning his verse the very next day and generously funding the video. Simultaneously, he appeared on "Money Constant" alongside DJ Tunez, DJ Maphorisa, and Wizkid. At one point in November 2025, Mavo occupied the top three spots on the Apple Music Nigeria Top Songs chart.

His viral hit "BODY (danz)" with CKay featured the lyric "Your body na meat pie"—a line that sparked widespread debate. Defending his creative choice, Mavo explained, "Let's just say 'meat pie' is metaphorical". The lyric's unexpectedness perfectly captures his approach: making people stop, question, and engage with his music.

With over 1,500 songs on his laptop and a clear vision of becoming a "mainstream international artist," Mavo is already teasing "a really, really big thing happening during the first quarter of next year". For someone who started recording in his hostel room three years ago, the trajectory suggests his biggest moments are still ahead.
